Our elf is leaving a few giggles behind. His farewell poster has joke strips for the family to take and keep. 😄
It is difficult to look solemn when someone is handing out snowman jokes.
This elf goodbye idea finishes the visit with a laugh.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Craft paper for a tear-off farewell poster (paid link)
- A pen, scissors and a cardboard backing
- Tape and a steady back support
Setup:
Write “Keep the giggles” at the top of a sheet of paper, then add a short goodbye. Divide the bottom third into four broad strips and cut between them, stopping below the message so the poster stays together. Tape the top to a cardboard backing.
Put a joke question on each strip and its answer on the reverse. For the questions in our photo, try eggs that fear “cracking up”, snowmen eating “frosted flakes”, reindeer enjoying “wrap music” and a broom that “overswept”. You can also use your own family’s favourite silly jokes.
Sit your elf beside the poster with a mitten resting on its edge. Invite everyone to take one strip on his final day. The children can keep their jokes after he leaves or use the blank back of the poster to add a joke for next year.
Make it cheaply:
Use ordinary waste paper and a delivery-box backing instead of buying a paper pack. You can fold the strips along the top before separating them so no tearing is needed. A single goodbye joke on a plain note is the quickest version.
