Our elf volunteered to decorate the tree. Somehow the tree is still bare and he is wearing all the decorations. 🎄
His note says “I was decorating the tree!” The teddy beside him does not look terribly convinced.
This funny elf light-tangle idea uses miniature coloured bulb garlands. These particular decorations are faux lights: they do not light up and need no electricity.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Miniature decorative coloured bulb garlands (paid link) – six pieces; faux bulbs that do not light up
- Green scrap card for a small pretend tree
- A small box to support the seated elf
- A teddy, tape and paper for the note
Setup:
Cut a little tree shape from green card and tape it to a folded-card base. Sit the elf against a small box alongside it, with both soft legs resting on the shelf.
Lay the garland in loose loops over his mittens, lap and legs, keeping his face and collar clear. Rest the spare section beside the still-bare tree. You only need the suggestion of a tangle, so do not knot it around the doll. Put the teddy beside him and add the note.
In the morning, help the children lift the garland off the elf and decorate the little cardboard tree properly. He will probably claim that was his plan all along.
Make it cheaply:
Cut tiny coloured bulb shapes from scrap paper and tape them along spare wool or string. Draw a black socket at the top of each paper bulb if you like. Use the back of a cereal box for the tree and a folded tissue behind the elf for support.
