Our elf has opened a crocodile park. The residents are very small, but he’s still asking everyone to watch their fingers! 🐊

Three green pegs have become his new crocodiles, with a paper pond ready for their morning swim. His “Please do not feed the pegs” note makes us wonder what they’ve been asking for.

This easy elf idea is a tiny craft scene using mini wooden pegs. The eyes, teeth and tails are homemade additions, so the crocodiles can look as silly as you like.

What you’ll need:

  • One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
  • Mini green wooden craft pegs (paid link) – this version uses three 2.5cm green pegs
  • Green and blue card for the park and pond
  • White paper and a black pen for eyes and teeth
  • Green paper for little tails
  • Glue and scissors
  • Paper for the signs
  • A closed notebook to support the elf

Setup:

Cut a small green-card base and a blue oval for the pretend pond. Make eyes from tiny white paper dots with black centres, then glue them near the clamping end of each peg. Add a little green paper tail at the other end and a few paper triangles as teeth. Let the glue dry before arranging the crocodiles around the pond. Let the jaws sit slightly open so the paper teeth show. Sit your elf beside the park against the notebook, keeping his legs away from the tiny residents. Add “Crocodile park” and the feeding note. The linked pegs are miniature craft clips; you only need three from the pack for this display.

Make it cheaply:

Colour ordinary wooden washing pegs green, or leave them natural and draw on the eyes. Larger pegs make the paper additions easier to handle. Flat crocodile shapes cut from an old envelope work too. Draw the pond on a scrap box lid and use the lid as the whole park.

Try the dinosaur dentist or the dry paper aquarium for another elf scene.
