Our elf has made a door hanger for Christmas Eve. It tells everyone the children are sleeping and Santa is very welcome. 🌙
He is handing it over before he catches his own lift home.
This elf goodbye idea adds a little homemade prop to the final bedtime.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Craft card for the Christmas Eve door hanger (paid link)
- A pen, colouring supplies and scissors
- A small cushion or steady elf support
Setup:
Draw a long rounded rectangle on card with a broad circle at one end for the door handle. An adult can cut out the shape and opening. Decorate it with a moon and stars, then write “Sleeping. Santa welcome!” below.
Sit your elf against a small cushion on a side table and rest the hanger across his lap. Add a short final note asking the children to hang it up after they have said goodbye. The opening should be broad enough to slip easily over your handle.
At bedtime, let them place the card on their door or a nearby hook, without fastening or locking anything. Read the farewell together, then put the elf away overnight while the welcome message remains.
Make it cheaply:
Use the clean back of a cereal box instead of buying craft card. A plain paper sign taped beside the door works if cutting a hanger is awkward. The moon and message can be drawn in pencil.
