Our elf has reached the ticket office. He would like one ticket home and absolutely no questions about how much luggage a scarf counts as. 🎫
His little counter is ready for the last journey of December, with a green ticket for the North Pole.
This elf goodbye idea gives Christmas Eve a cheerful little departure scene.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Coloured craft card for the ticket and counter trim (paid link)
- A small empty cardboard box, scissors and tape
- A scrap of fabric or a spare scarf
- Paper and a pen
Setup:
Turn the empty box into a ticket counter by cutting a broad opening in the front. An adult can do the cutting before the elf goes anywhere near it. Keep the base and sides intact so it stands securely, and decorate the top with a “HOME TICKETS” sign and a little red trim. Cut a green card ticket and write “NORTH POLE” across it.
Sit your elf alongside the opening, with his back against the box and his legs resting on the table. Rest one mitten near the ticket. Draw a luggage trolley on spare cardboard, fold a wide tab beneath it and put a rolled scarf in front. The trolley is a flat decoration, so the scarf can rest directly on the surface. Add “One way, please!” on a note.
Set this out for the final morning or Christmas Eve, then tuck the elf away after the children have said goodbye. You can tell them the ticket is for his journey home with Santa tonight. The counter and trolley are homemade; the linked card is a craft supply.
Make it cheaply:
Use the back of a cereal box for the ticket, trim and trolley, then colour them with pens. A folded scrap of an old envelope makes the note. The counter can be a small carton you already have, and a clean fabric offcut stands in for the scarf. Nothing here needs to be bought as an elf kit.
