The elf has made a thank-you rosette for his favourite family. ❤️
It is awarded for a lovely December, excellent giggles and making him feel at home.
This elf goodbye idea leaves a little award to keep. Personalise a ready-made blank rosette, or make the folded-paper version shown in our photo.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Blank prize rosettes with centres you can personalise (paid link)
- Scrap paper or card, pens and a little tape or glue
- Alternative keepsake: A Santa Nice List enamel badge (paid link)
Setup:
Choose a blank rosette and cut a small paper circle to fit its centre. Write “Thank you, family”, the child’s name, or a funny award such as “Best giggles of December”. Stick the circle over the blank centre and add a few drawn stars or holly leaves.
Sit your elf beside the rosette with his back supported. Rest one mitten near the award so it looks as though he is presenting it. Tuck a short goodbye note behind it, mentioning something your family enjoyed together.
In the morning, let the children collect their award and decide what the elf deserves in return. “Champion biscuit thief” might suit a particularly cheeky visitor. Keep the rosette with the Christmas decorations for next year.
If you would rather leave a badge than a paper rosette, put the Nice List badge on its backing card beside the goodbye note. An adult should handle the pin and attach it securely if it is worn. You can still write the family’s funny award on a scrap-paper card.
Make it cheaply:
Make the paper rosette in our photo using spare wrapping paper and a cereal-box backing. Fold two strips into little concertina pleats, join the ends into a loop and flatten it into a circle. Tape it to the card, add a message circle and two paper tails, and let any glue dry. A rosette drawn and coloured on scrap card is an even quicker free option.
