Our elf has checked in at the departure lounge. He has found a warm seat and put his extra mittens ready for the North Pole. 🧤
The lounge looks suspiciously like a cereal box with a scarf in it.
This elf goodbye idea gives him a cosy wait for his Christmas Eve lift.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Assorted felt sheets for a pair of pretend travel mittens (paid link)
- An empty cereal carton and a small scarf or cloth
- Paper, a pen and optional thread for decoration
Setup:
Cut the front of a cereal carton down to make a low seat, leaving the back and sides tall. Fold a scarf into the base so your elf sits comfortably with his back supported. Keep the carton level on a side table.
Cut two broad mitten shapes from felt and rest them beside him. Flat shapes are enough; if you enjoy sewing, join two layers around each edge and add a simple snowflake stitch like our photo. The extra mittens stay as props rather than being forced over the elf’s hands.
Add “Ready for the cold” on a card and a farewell line explaining that he is waiting for Santa’s pickup. The children can help check that his warm seat and travel mittens are ready before they say goodbye.
Make it cheaply:
Cut mitten shapes from coloured paper or a worn fabric scrap instead of buying felt. Use a folded tea towel to line the box. The lounge needs no special furniture, and the mittens can simply be drawings.
