Our elf has chosen a very convincing disguise. If you ignore the face, mittens and red feet, he is practically a banana. 🍌
His note says “Spot the odd banana!” We suspect this round of hide-and-seek won’t take the children very long.
This funny banana elf idea uses the costume as a fruit-bowl disguise, rather than a banana telephone or a Minion makeover.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- A miniature banana onesie for the elf (paid link)
- A broad, clean fruit bowl and a couple of bananas
- A folded cloth to support the seated elf
- Scrap paper and a pen
Setup:
Put the banana outfit over the elf’s usual red suit, following its openings and leaving his face clear. Tuck his hat inside the hood if it fits comfortably. Sit him in the empty part of the bowl with a folded cloth behind his back, then let his soft legs rest over the front rim.
Arrange the bananas alongside him and stand the “Spot the odd banana!” note in front. Use fruit with its peel intact and keep any tape on the prop pieces rather than the fruit. A bowl of toy fruit works just as well.
For a little morning game, ask the children to point out every clue that gave him away. The enormous smile may be the first one.
Make it cheaply:
Draw a long banana shape on yellow scrap paper, cut a face opening and loosely wrap it around the seated elf. A yellow tea towel with a paper banana tip also makes a very silly disguise. You can draw the other bananas on cardboard if the fruit bowl is empty.
Try the banana phone call for a different fruity joke.
