Our elf has invented an excellent disguise. He is holding up a pair of glasses that are almost as wide as his whole body. 👓
The note says “Nobody will recognise me.” We think the red hat may give him away.
This funny elf idea is a quick size-mismatch joke, using an old pair of clear-lens glasses and a little bit of support.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- An old pair of clear-lens glasses, with the owner’s permission
- A folded cloth for back and frame support
- Paper and a pen
- A clear dresser or small table
Setup:
Sit your elf against a folded cloth on a clear surface. Place the glasses loosely in front of his face, with the centre just above his eyes and the lenses showing his face. Support the lower edges of the frames with his mittens and an extra fold of cloth if needed, rather than trying to make the rigid arms grip his small head. Leave the glasses resting securely and avoid bending the frames to fit. The oversized shape is part of the joke, so they do not need to look like proper elf eyewear. Add a “Nobody will recognise me” note alongside him. In the morning, the children can decide whether this disguise has fooled Teddy or any of the other toys. An old, sturdy pair is a better display prop than someone’s everyday glasses, which may need to be worn before the scene has been discovered.
Use what you have:
Borrow an unused pair if you already have one. Otherwise, draw two large connected frames on packaging card, cut out the lens openings with adult help and prop the cardboard glasses in front of the elf. Open holes let his face show clearly and create the same oversized disguise. There is no need to buy miniature costume glasses for this joke.
Try the giant paper moustache or the cardboard robot costume for another elf scene.
