Our elf has taken on an extremely important job: guarding the last biscuit. There is a dragon nearby, so he is keeping a close eye on it! 🛡️
The dragon is a toy dinosaur with paper wings, and the castle is made from a cereal box. Our elf’s little shield gives him just enough confidence to stay at his post.
This funny elf idea makes a tiny fairy-tale scene from familiar toys. The joke is the biscuit, which appears to be the kingdom’s most valuable treasure.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- A small toy dinosaur
- A cereal box or other spare cardboard
- Plain craft card (paid link)
- Tape and a pen
- A biscuit and a small saucer
- Optional paper tube for a pretend lance
- Paper for the guard’s note
Setup:
Cut a short castle wall from the cereal box, with square notches along the top. A couple of folded cardboard towers give it a simple backdrop. Sit your elf against the wall so his back is supported. Cut a small shield from paper, add a star and lightly tape it near one mitten. Make two paper wings for the dinosaur and attach them with removable tape. Put the biscuit on a saucer between the toys, with the dinosaur facing towards it. Finish with “Guarding the last biscuit” on a note. If you add a rolled-paper lance, rest it on the table rather than balancing it in the elf’s hand. A paper biscuit works just as well for a fully pretend scene.
Make it cheaply:
Use a cereal box for the castle, scrap paper for the shield and wings, and any toy creature you already have. Draw a round biscuit on card if you would rather keep the real biscuits in their tin. The two characters and the note tell the story without needing a castle playset or a knight outfit.
Try the dinosaur fashion studio or the cardboard robot for another elf scene.
