Our elf is helping two new pets find a home. They are very quiet, never need walking and are unlikely to steal anyone’s biscuits. 🪨

Pip and Pebble are waiting on their little beds, with paper faces and name cards. Your elf has even made an adoption form for anyone who would like to take one home.

This funny elf idea gives ordinary pebbles a silly little story. It is a gentle morning activity if the children enjoy naming things and making tiny homes.

What you’ll need:

  • One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
  • Two clean, smooth pebbles
  • Scrap paper for faces and name cards
  • A pen and a little tape
  • Two small fabric scraps for pretend beds
  • Plain craft card (paid link)
  • A pencil for the adoption form
  • A folded cloth to support your elf

Setup:

Wash and dry the pebbles first. Draw a simple pair of eyes and a smile on two small paper pieces, then tape one face to each pebble. Place them on separate fabric scraps and give each a folded name card. Sit your elf behind the pair, supported by a cloth, and add an “ADOPT A ROCK” sign. A little form with spaces for the pet’s name and new home finishes the desk. In the morning, the children can keep the names Pip and Pebble or choose their own. An empty small box makes a pretend home for the new pet. Leave the stones plain underneath the paper faces, so you can take the decoration off afterwards.

Make it cheaply:

Use clean pebbles already in the garden, or make paper pets if you do not have suitable stones. Scrap paper supplies the faces, sign and form. An old sock cut into little squares makes the beds. There is no need to buy googly eyes or paint; a couple of pen dots and a smile give each pet its character.

Try the tiny museum or the kindness-note cupboard for another elf scene.
