Our elf has challenged Teddy to a tug-of-war match. The contest looks fairly even, although Teddy may have an advantage in the sitting-still department! 🧸

A short cord stretches between the two toys, with a paper strip marking the centre. The note says “No pulling faces!”, which may be the only rule our elf has remembered.

This funny elf idea is a little toy sports scene for the morning. Both competitors stay seated, so it is easy to arrange without finding a way to make the elf stand up.

What you’ll need:

Setup:

Choose a clear patch of rug and sit your elf on one side, bracing his back against a closed book. Put Teddy opposite, supported against a chair or stool leg. Rest one end of the cord near the elf’s mittens and the other near Teddy’s paw, using loose little loops if they help it stay in place. The middle can rest on the rug rather than being stretched tightly. Place a blue paper strip halfway between the toys and add “No pulling faces!” on the note. Keep the pose simple, with both toys’ bodies fully supported. You can let one competitor lean back slightly to make the match look more dramatic, without balancing either toy in mid-air.

Make it cheaply:

Use a teddy already at home and a little household string. A narrow strip of cloth or ribbon can replace the cord for the same toy scene. The book support can sit behind the elf where it is barely noticed. If you are short of time, put the toys opposite each other with the cord across their laps and the funny note between them.

Try the marshmallow weightlifting session or the teddy birthday party for another elf scene.
