Our elves have entered a three-legged race. So far, they have mastered the sitting-down part. 🎀
Their ribbon is ready and the start line is waiting. Agreeing which foot goes first may take a little longer.
This idea for two or three elves makes a quick, cheerful teamwork scene.
What you’ll need:
- Two or three official Elf on the Shelf dolls (paid link)
- Christmas satin ribbon for the elves’ loose joining bow (paid link)
- Two closed books or a folded cloth for a seat
- Paper and a pen
Setup:
Sit two elves side by side on a low stack of closed books, with their backs supported and all four legs resting in front. Bring only their two inner legs together: the left-hand elf’s left leg and the right-hand elf’s right leg, as you look at the pair from the front. Tie a short ribbon loosely around those two lower legs. Spread the two outer legs slightly apart and leave them completely free. You should see four feet, with just the middle pair joined by one loose bow.
Write “START” on a strip of paper and lay it beyond their feet. Add “Teamwork!” on a note. Keep the dolls seated for the whole setup; there is no need to balance them in a running pose. With a third elf, sit the extra visitor beside the start line holding a paper “Ready?” sign as the referee. In the morning, the children can suggest which way the pair should move first.
Make it cheaply:
Use a ribbon from an old gift or a narrow strip of scrap fabric. A paper band folded loosely around only the two inner legs works too; both outer legs stay free. Draw the start line on an old envelope, and use a rolled tea towel as the seat if you do not want to borrow books.
