Our elf is giving a reindeer lesson. The first challenge is going around the cones without knocking them over. 🦌
His fluffy pupil is waiting at the start, with a paper finish line at the other end.
This easy elf idea uses an official Elf Pets reindeer and a small course made from card.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- The official Elf Pets reindeer book and plush set (paid link)
- Three homemade card cones and a paper finish line
- A small note and a cloth support
Setup:
Make three simple cones by curling card into a cone shape and taping the overlap. Put them in a short winding line on the floor, leaving gaps wide enough for the plush reindeer. Add a paper strip marked FINISH at the far end. Sit your elf against a folded cloth alongside the start and leave the reindeer with all four soft legs resting on the floor. The “Reindeer lessons” note explains his important new job. In the morning, the children can move the reindeer gently around the markers, then back again, while an adult looks after the elf display. Try a wider route or turn the cones into a straight path for another round. The linked official set includes the reindeer plush, storybook, golden heart charm and adoption certificate; our cones and finish line are homemade extras.
Make it cheaply:
Use an existing toy animal instead of buying the reindeer, or stand your own paper reindeer on a folded card base. Rolled scrap paper makes the cones, and a line drawn on paper is enough for the finish. The fun is helping a toy follow the route.
Try the paper robin watch or the toy sock sack race for another elf scene.
