Our elf has organised a sack race. The sacks are socks, and the competitors are mostly stuffing. 🧦
He and two teddy friends are sitting behind a starting line, ready for a very gentle hop.
This funny elf idea makes a tiny sports-day scene from clean, mismatched socks.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Two small toy friends
- Three clean socks
- A strip of dark paper, a note and small cloth supports
Setup:
Choose socks roomy enough for each toy’s lower body. Put your elf’s legs into one sock and roll the cuff loosely around his hips, keeping both mittens outside. Place the small teddy toys inside the other socks with their faces visible. Sit all three on the floor against small folded cloth supports rather than trying to make them balance upright. Lay one dark paper starting line in front and add the “Ready, steady, hop!” note. The toys remain still overnight; the scene just looks as though the race is about to begin. In the morning, an adult can move each toy forward in small pretend hops while the children cheer for a favourite. You can give each racer a silly name, choose a finishing line across the room and decide together who reaches it first.
Use what you have:
Use socks you already have, or fold scrap paper into open little bags for the toys. A strip of card makes the starting line, and the finish can be another strip or a folded note. No one needs a real sack or a matching sports outfit for this tiny race.
Try the teddy tug of war or the tiny limbo party for another elf scene.
