Our elf has joined a limbo party and found a very effective technique: lying completely flat. Teddy is not sure that counts. 🎉
The bar is low, the hat is floppy and the note asks “How low can you go?”
This funny elf idea makes a little toy limbo course from two boxes and a paper straw. The elf’s relaxed pose does most of the comedy.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Two small, sturdy closed cardboard boxes
- One paper drinking straw
- A teddy or another toy waiting for a turn
- Paper and a pen
- A clear patch of carpet
Setup:
Stand the two boxes on the carpet a short distance apart. Cut matching small slots in them with adult help, low enough for a paper straw to rest horizontally above the elf’s chest. Place the straw in the slots as a lightweight bar, then lie your elf flat on his back underneath it. Leave a clear gap between the straw and his body, with his face and both mittens visible. Fold his hat gently behind his head so it does not hide his eyes. Sit Teddy behind the course as the next contestant and put the “How low can you go?” note beside the boxes. In the morning, the children can move small toys under the bar and see which ones fit. Keep this as a toy-sized game; the boxes are there to support a straw, rather than making a course for children to climb through.
Use what you have:
Reuse two cartons from the recycling and a paper straw already in the drawer. A narrow rolled-paper tube can replace the straw if you have none. You can skip the slots and tape the bar lightly to the boxes, then change its height for different toys. No tiny party furniture or costumes are needed.
Try the floor-is-lava escape or the teddy tug-of-war for another elf scene.
