Our elf has written his goodbye on a scroll. Apparently an ordinary note was not quite grand enough. 💌
The message rolls between two cardboard tubes, tied with little red ribbons.
This elf goodbye idea is a sweet farewell that the children can keep.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Red, green and gold craft ribbon for the scroll ties (paid link)
- Two clean cardboard tubes
- A wide piece of paper, pens and tape
Setup:
Write “Goodbye for now” across the middle of a wide strip of paper. Add a little message about a happy moment from December, leaving room for drawings or signatures. Tape one end to each cardboard tube and roll the paper towards the middle.
Unroll enough of the message to show the words. Sit your elf with his back supported and lay the open scroll across his lap. Tie short pieces of ribbon around the outside of the rollers, away from his neck and arms.
The children can read his final message, add their own goodbye and roll it up afterwards. Put the scroll with the Christmas decorations to open next year. If you prefer a funny ending, let the elf apologise for one particularly silly bit of mischief.
Make it cheaply:
Skip the ribbon or use a short strip of wrapping-paper offcut as each tie. The back of a used sheet of paper makes a perfectly good scroll. The ribbon is an optional finishing touch rather than a special kit.
