The homeward ferry is ready, although our elf appears to be the only passenger. At least he will get a good seat. ⛴️
A cardboard boat, a blue cloth sea and one very important departure sign make a lovely final adventure.
This elf leaving idea turns an ordinary table into a miniature ferry terminal.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Coloured craft paper for the ferry signs and little map (paid link)
- A shallow cardboard box and spare cardboard
- A blue cloth or tea towel
- Tape, a pen and a small folded paper suitcase
Setup:
Use a shallow box as the ferry deck. Add a raised cardboard back and tape a broad cardboard ramp from the front edge down to the table. Put a blue cloth underneath, keeping the boat level and stable. This is a pretend crossing, so there is no water to spill.
Sit your elf against the ferry’s back wall and put “Homeward ferry” on the front. Add a folded “Final departure” sign at the end of the ramp. A small cardboard suitcase and rolled paper map can sit beside him, but the ferry departure is the main story.
Make a paper ticket for the children to wave him off. They can draw a sea creature or lighthouse on the map before his Christmas Eve sailing. Once they are asleep, remove the passenger and leave the empty boat or a short “Arrived safely” note.
Make it cheaply:
Use packaging for the entire ferry, draw signs on scrap paper and borrow a blue jumper for the sea. The bought paper is useful for colourful signs and a map, but none of the props needs to be a miniature toy.
