Our elf heard there were two mice in the house… so naturally, he organised a race! 🏁
He’s sitting on a stack of books while two computer mice line up at his paper finish line. The cables are their racing tails, a toy rabbit is watching, and the fastest mouse gets absolutely no help from a computer.
This funny elf idea is handy for a quick evening setup if you’ve got a couple of old computer mice tucked in a drawer. One mouse can race a toy car if you only have one.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Two spare computer mice, or one mouse and a small toy car
- Two small books for the grandstand
- Scrap paper and a black pen for the finish line
- A toy spectator and a little tape
Setup:
Sit your elf on the books with his feet resting on the desk. Put the mice in front of him and leave one slightly farther ahead. Draw a chequered strip on paper and lay it across their route, with the cables trailing behind the racers. Fold a “Mouse Grand Prix” sign and add a toy referee. Keep everything unplugged for the scene; these racers can stay completely still until the children discover them. A little paper trophy made from a folded gold wrapper gives the winner something to brag about.
Use what you have:
Borrow spare mice from a drawer rather than buying them for a one-night joke. A toy car or a folded paper mouse makes a perfectly acceptable opponent. Turn an old envelope into the race sign and use a plain line if drawing all those squares feels like too much effort.
For another little adventure, try the shoe train or bowling night with a friend.
