Funny elf idea – the dropped juggling balls

Our elf has been practising his juggling. The balls are on the floor, so we suspect it has been a mixed morning. 🤹

The note says “Dropped them again.” He appears to be taking the news calmly.

This funny elf idea suggests a failed circus practice without any hidden strings or floating props.

What you’ll need:

Setup:

Crumple three paper scraps into soft, roughly round balls. Choose different colours if you want the children to spot all three easily. Recline your elf against the cushion on a clear floor, with his face towards the room and his mittens resting near his head. Scatter the balls around him, leaving every one on the floor rather than trying to make them hang in the air. Add the “Dropped them again” note beside his feet. In the morning, the children can count the balls and decide whether he needs another lesson or simply a break. An adult can demonstrate a gentle toss and catch with one paper ball, then let them try in a clear space. The overnight joke is about the elf’s unsuccessful attempt, so nobody needs to manage three-ball juggling to enjoy it.

Use what you have:

Use wrapping-paper offcuts or scrap paper already in the recycling. Small balls made from clean rolled socks work too and can go straight back into the drawer afterwards. The elf, three dropped balls and one short note are enough; a costume or bought circus kit is optional.

Try the paper basketball challenge or the toy sock sack race for another elf scene.
