Our elf has become a burrito. The filling is mostly felt, with a surprisingly tall red hat. 🌯

His feet are sticking out of one end and the note simply says “Elf burrito.”

This funny elf idea makes a quick pretend-food scene with a loose wrap around the elf’s costume.

What you’ll need:

Setup:

Lay the folded tea towel on the plate to support your elf, then position him with his face towards the children. Wrap the tortilla loosely around his cloth body, overlapping the sides at the front. Keep his head, hat and white collar outside the top and leave his red feet projecting from the lower end. One mitten can rest near the top edge and the other beside the wrap. The tortilla does not need to close neatly around the whole doll; the visible elf parts are what make it funny. Add the “Elf burrito” note and let the children work out the unusual filling in the morning. This is a pretend display rather than breakfast. If you would rather avoid using food for a prop, the cloth version below gives the same shape and can be used again.

Use what you have:

Use a beige tea towel, napkin or scrap of felt instead of a tortilla. Loosely roll it around the elf’s body and place him on a plate. A few brown paper spots laid on top can suggest toasted patches, but the shape, red hat and protruding feet already make the joke clear.

Try the pretend cotton-candy cart or the giant slipper feet for another elf scene.
