Our elf and Teddy have found a little seesaw. Our elf’s end is down, and the note asks who ate all the biscuits. Teddy is saying nothing! 🧸
The seesaw is a wide cardboard strip resting across an empty paper roll. Both toys have support behind them, so nobody has to perform an impressive balancing act overnight.
This funny elf idea makes a small playground scene from recycling. The joke comes from the pose and note, with the lower end resting comfortably on the table.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- A small teddy
- A stiff, wide strip of cardboard
- An empty cardboard paper roll
- Optional blue craft paper (paid link) to cover the strip
- Tape
- Two closed books for support
- Paper for the biscuit note
Setup:
Cut a strip of sturdy cardboard wide enough for the toys to sit on. Tape two layers together if one layer bends too much, then cover it with blue paper if you like. Lay the empty roll horizontally on the table and place the strip across it. Sit your elf at the lower end, letting that end rest on the table, with a book supporting his back. Place the smaller teddy at the raised end and use another book behind it to keep it in place. Adjust the roll until the setup sits securely. Leave “Who ate all the biscuits?” on the note beside the seesaw. This is a still toy scene, so the support books can stay in position all morning.
Make it cheaply:
Use cardboard from a delivery box and an empty kitchen- or toilet-paper roll. Plain brown cardboard works just as well without a coloured covering. A folded cardboard support can replace the roll if that is easier to arrange. Keep the lower end down and support both toys, rather than trying to make a free-moving miniature playground toy.
Try the teddy tug-of-war match or the floor is lava game for another elf scene.
