Our elf has found some Brussels sprouts trying to escape Christmas dinner. They’ve even discovered the pedestrian crossing! 🥬
He’s stopping the traffic while they shuffle across the paper road. We can’t decide whether he’s helping them escape or bringing them straight back to the kitchen.
This funny Christmas elf idea only needs a few sprouts and a simple paper crossing. Their very ordinary appearance makes the scene even sillier.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- Four Brussels sprouts, or four green paper circles
- Black craft card (paid link) or dark scrap card
- Six short white paper strips
- Paper and a pen for signs
- Tape
- A folded-card base for the stop paddle
- A low tin or box to support the elf
Setup:
Make a small paper road and tape the white strips across it as a zebra crossing. Put the sprouts along the crossing in a loose row, leaving them resting naturally on the paper. Draw a red stop paddle on card and attach it to a folded base so it can stand beside the road. Sit your elf against the tin or box with a mitten resting near the paddle. Keep his long legs away from the sprouts, then add “Sprout crossing” and “Escaping Christmas dinner!” notes. There’s no need to give the vegetables faces or legs. A short queue of sprouts and a rather officious elf already make a very clear story.
Make it cheaply:
Colour scrap packaging dark for the road and use an old envelope for the crossing strips. Draw four leafy green circles on card if you don’t have sprouts handy. A simple folded sign can replace the paddle, and any small box can support the elf. The whole scene can fit on a clean container lid.
Try the toy-car parking tickets or the paper snowman puddle for another elf scene.
