Our elf has decided that red is a bit predictable. His new outfit is made from the stationery drawer. 📝

He is wearing a few little sticky notes and looking remarkably pleased with himself.

This funny elf idea is a quick paper makeover for a morning when you need something simple.

What you’ll need:

Setup:

Sit your elf against a cushion on a low table and arrange his arms and legs so his outfit is easy to see. Gently press a few tiny sticky notes onto the front of the red felt body, using just their normal sticky edge. Keep his face, white collar, mittens and feet uncovered. Our version uses six little pink and green squares, with the spare pad beside him. Add a note saying “New suit!” and leave everything still overnight. Test one note on a small area first; if it does not hold, lay the squares loosely on his lap instead. The children can design a paper outfit for a drawing of the elf in the morning, choosing colours and patterns of their own. Remove the notes gently afterwards rather than leaving adhesive on the felt for days.

Make it cheaply:

Use notes already in your desk drawer, or cut small squares of scrap paper and rest them on his lap. There is no need to stick anything to the doll. A paper outline of the elf is a lovely place for the children to continue the makeover without attaching more notes to him.

Try the giant glasses disguise or the fancy napkin bow tie for another elf scene.
