Our elf has spotted a tiny chance of rain. Naturally, he’s found a tiny umbrella to match! ☔

Three paper raindrops are hanging beneath his homemade cloud. The little parasol is more decorative than practical, but he seems very confident about his weather preparations.

This funny elf idea makes an entirely dry rain scene. A small paper umbrella and a simple cloud are enough to give the elf a new morning surprise.

What you’ll need:

  • One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
  • Small paper parasols (paid link) – this scene uses one small decorative paper parasol
  • Blue paper for a cloud and three raindrops
  • A standing-card backdrop
  • Short pieces of cotton thread
  • Tape and a little reusable tack
  • A folded towel to support the elf
  • Paper for a “Tiny chance of rain!” note

Setup:

Cut a cloud from blue paper and tape it to the card backdrop. Hang three paper raindrops beneath it on short pieces of thread. Sit your elf against the folded towel in front, with his long legs resting on the dry ledge or table. Open one little parasol and rest its stick near a mitten at shoulder height. Use a small piece of tack against the support to keep it still, tilting the canopy so his face and hat remain visible. Add the note at the front. The linked umbrellas are small decorative picks, so keep the scene miniature rather than expecting one to cover the whole elf.

Make it cheaply:

Cut a coloured paper circle, make one slit from the edge to the centre and overlap it slightly into a shallow cone. Tape it to a paper stem for a homemade umbrella. Draw the cloud and drops on one folded card if hanging them is fiddly. A flat umbrella sketch beside the elf works for an even quicker scene.

Try the Christmas biscuit forecast or the indoor kite mishap for another elf scene.
