A tiny door has appeared by the skirting board… and our elf seems to know exactly what’s behind it! 🚪
He’s sitting beside the doorway with a mitten raised to knock, while a little paper doormat says “Please knock.” Perhaps he’s popped home for a biscuit, or maybe he’s waiting for Santa to answer.
This easy elf idea gives the children a little magical corner to discover. It’s a lovely setup for a hallway, and the elf can come back to his tiny doorway for other adventures during December.
What you’ll need:
- One official Elf on the Shelf doll (paid link)
- The official Magical Elf Door Kit (paid link) (door frame, North Pole scene and four interchangeable doors)
- A scrap of brown paper or card for a doormat
- A pen for the “Please knock” message
Setup:
Choose a door design and fit the scene and door into the frame following the kit instructions. Place the doorway against a clear section of skirting board and leave the door partly open so the printed North Pole scene peeks through. Sit your elf beside the steps and raise one mitten as though he’s knocking. Cut a tiny doormat from brown paper, write the message and lay it just in front of the door. A small paper Christmas decoration makes his entrance extra festive.
Make it cheaply:
Cut a little door from card and colour it red or green. Draw the planks, hinges and a round handle, then attach it to the skirting board with removable tape. Add a paper arch around it and the same little doormat. For an open-door version, fold a flap in the card and draw a snowy scene behind it.
Pair his new doorway with the lost North Pole key, or see how he arrives by special delivery.
